BEGINNER’S BIBLE STUDY GUIDE
Why Study the Bible?
The Bible is God’s Word. It teaches us how to live a life that pleases Him. Just as a soldier trains to fight well, believers must learn to use the Bible. 2 Timothy 2:15 says, “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” When you study the Bible, you grow stronger in faith and defeat the devil.
How the Bible Helps You
- It Gives Light: The Bible shows you the right path to walk. Psalm 119:105 says, “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” Without God’s Word, life feels dark and confusing.
- It Builds Faith: Romans 10:17 says, “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” The more you read, the stronger your faith in God becomes.
- It Protects You: Jesus used Scripture to resist Satan (Matthew 4:1-11). When you know the Bible, you can reject temptation and stand firm.
How to Start Studying
- Set a Time: Choose a specific time each day to read the Bible (e.g., morning or evening or both).
- Pray First: Ask God to help you understand His Word. Say, “Holy Spirit, teach me your Word today.”
- Start Small: Read 1-2 verses daily. Think about what they mean. Write down questions or thoughts.
- Use a Plan: Follow a simple Bible reading plan (e.g., the Gospel of John or Psalms).
Practical Tips for Growth
- Learn Key Verses: Memorize easy verses like John 3:16 or Philippians 4:13. Repeat them daily.
- Join a Group: Meet with other believers to discuss the Bible. Ask questions and share insights.
- Apply the Word: Obey what you read. For example, if you read “love your neighbour,” do something kind for someone.
What to Avoid
- Distractions: Turn off your phone or TV during study time.
- Rushing: Take time to think about each verse. Ask, “What is God saying to me?”
- Pride: Always pray for humility. God reveals His truth to those who seek Him sincerely.
The Power of Consistency
Reading the Bible daily is like eating food for your spirit. Just as your body needs food, your soul needs God’s Word. Start with 5 minutes a day. Over time, you will hunger for more.
Prayer for Understanding
“Lord Jesus, open my heart to Your Word. Teach me Your truth and help me obey. Let Your Word change my life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
Key Verses to Begin

- Psalm 1:2-3: “But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.”
- Colossians 3:16: “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.”
